Atelier
Atelier is my pedagogical approach, born from my experience as a dancer, choreographer, and teacher. I understand the dance studio as a space for experimentation, learning, and the construction of creative identity.
The approach stems from the observation of bodies and the desire to transmit to new generations the knowledge acquired alongside leading figures in contemporary dance. At the same time, it seeks to generate new forms of communication and a shared physical language.
The methodology is based on the compositional factors of dance —energy, form, space, and rhythm— influenced by the Jooss-Leeder method, and focuses on breath, repetition, and directional oppositions. It is a practice centered on improvisation, presence, listening, and the qualities of movement.
ABOUT ME
Pau Aran Gimeno (Barcelona, 1981) is an artist who lives and works between Germany and Spain. Born in Cerdanyola del Vallès, he began dancing at the age of ten at Roger’s school and later at Company & Company in Barcelona, where he trained in ballroom dancing, jazz, modern, classical and contemporary dance. This eclectic base marked his interest in a hybrid and open language from the beginning.
He completed his training at the Royal Mariemma Professional Dance Conservatory in Madrid and, at the same time, with Francesc Bravo and Cristiane Boullosa. Subsequently, he entered the Folkwang Universität der Künste in Essen, following the recommendation of Malou Airaudo, with whom he also trained.
At the end of that same year, he joined as a stable dancer at the Tanztheater Wuppertal – Pina Bausch, where he worked until the end of the 2019/20 season. For fifteen years he performed more than twenty-five pieces from Bausch’s repertoire. Subsequently, he has continued to be linked to the company as a guest artist and has become part of the Pina Bausch Foundation transmission team, contributing to preserving and continuing the legacy of the German choreographer.
At the same time, since 2013 he has developed his own universe as an independent choreographer, presenting works in Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Chile and Japan. His creations include Avui em veus, demà seré invisible (2013), Tres maneras and Mimosa (2016), Notes on Life (2019), Lettre d’amour (2020), Un cadavre exquis II (2021–2022), Seeking the Truth (2023), Erinnerungen an den Widerstand (2026) and MYCO (2026), premiered in the Mercat de les Flors in Barcelona together with Jose Troncoso.
In 2020 he also began a continued artistic collaboration with Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui. He has worked with creators such as Theo Clinkard, Alan Lucien Oyen, Antonio Ruz, Stefan Jovanović and Jorge Puerta Armenta.
